Trefethen Family Vineyards 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Oak Knoll, Napa

I saw this on the menu at Bob’s Steak & Chop House in Fort Worth this past week and immediately started salivating.  It could have also been that I was looking forward to my Filet that I was planning to order…

Either way, this 2006 Trefethen Cab was true to its roots and had the big fruit typical of many Napa Cabs, but also enjoyed the smooth tanins and vanilla oakiness that a well balanced wine can support.  This is a rare specimen in that it’s from Napa, about $50 in the store (only a slight markup in the restaurant $80), and can stand alone or up to a steak just as well.  If I had it at home, I don’t think it would ‘age’ very long.
