Campi Nuovi Montecucco Sangiovese 2007 – Old World Meets New World

Our host Giancarlo at Le volpi e l’uva in Florence, Italy recommended this Campi Nuovi Sangiovese for one of our mementos from Florence.  Not only did he understand our tastes, he picked out a real winner here.  This small-medium production (6600 cases) Sangiovese had some traditionally tannic and spicy notes, but the full, bright berry roundness that typifies wines we’re used to finding in California.  I’m not sure if this is available state-side, but if it is, I’m going to look for others from the same producer as we really enjoyed it.
