The name of this wine is no accident! The Boxer from Mollydooker really comes out and hits you square in the kisser. As many know, Aussie Shiraz is a whole different animal than it’s long lost sibling, the Syrah in the USA. This specimen is true to that with a sticky sweetness and full fruit-al assault. It’s a whopping 16% alcohol which is only 1.5% lower than a cab dessert wine I picked up in Napa (that is fortified!). We enjoyed it, don’t misunderstand me, but it’s a hard wine to pair with a main course. Rather, I think it’s a strong candidate for dessert or some dark chocolate…maybe some salted chocolate would do it. If you like the old-world style of wine, don’t bother with this, but if you have an adventurous bone in your body, definitely give it a shot. Cheers.
